WHAT HOMES IN 20876
NEED FOR AC
Most homes in 20876 and 20874 were built between 1995 and 2015 with original 10 to 13 SEER equipment, 2 to 5 tons, flex duct in the attic, an air handler in the attic or basement, and a single 14 inch return for a 3 ton system. That undersized return is the number one reason new systems fail to cool, freeze up, and run loud in this area. Montgomery County has high humidity in July and August. If your indoor humidity is over 60 percent, your AC is not removing latent heat properly due to oversizing, low airflow, or low refrigerant charge. We measure static pressure, return grille size, and total external static on every quote as an owner operated company — owner on every job, no subs.
We install three types of systems that meet Maryland code and qualify for EmPOWER when efficiency requirements are met. Central air conditioners from 14.3 SEER2 legal minimum to 17 SEER2 two stage, with AHRI matched evaporator coils. Carrier, Trane, Goodman, and Daikin are our primary lines because parts are available in Montgomery County and warranties are supported locally. Cold climate heat pumps that heat to minus 13 Fahrenheit are ideal for all electric communities in Germantown and are the only system that qualifies for both EmPOWER instant rebate and federal 25C tax credit. Ductless mini splits from Daikin and Mitsubishi are used for additions, finished basements, garages, and sunrooms where ductwork is not feasible. We do not install customer supplied equipment, used equipment, or mismatched coils and condensers that are not AHRI certified together.
Same-day repair available for systems blowing warm air, icing at indoor coil, leaking water inside, short cycling, or tripping breaker. We stock capacitors, contactors, blower motors, condenser fan motors, and leak repair parts for common 2 to 5 ton systems in Germantown. Annual maintenance includes washing outdoor coil, clearing condensate drain and testing safety switch, checking superheat and subcool, testing capacitor and contactor, measuring static pressure and temperature split across coil, and inspecting filter and return size.
YOUR REBATE IS
INSTANT — WE DEDUCT IT
We are an owner operated company and a participating contractor in EmPOWER Maryland energy efficiency programs offered by Pepco, BGE, and Potomac Edison under the Maryland Energy Administration. This is NOT a mail-in rebate where you pay full price and wait for a check. As a participating contractor, we apply your EmPOWER rebate instantly at checkout — it is deducted directly from your final invoice on installation day. We handle all the utility paperwork behind the scenes.
You can verify the program and your utility's current offers directly on the official utility program sites. These are the official sites:
BGE: bgesmartenergy.com
Potomac Edison: firstenergycorp.com
Official State: energy.maryland.gov
EmPOWER provides instant rebates for high efficiency central air conditioners and heat pumps that meet minimum SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2 ratings. For central AC, the system must typically be 16 SEER2 or higher and 12 EER2 or higher to qualify, and must be AHRI matched as a system. For heat pumps, the system must meet SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2 minimums and be listed in the AHRI directory. We provide the AHRI certificate, paid invoice showing model numbers, and installation date. The instant rebate is deducted at checkout by us — you do not wait for a check from the utility. Rebate amounts and funding are set by the utility and can change each program year. We do not guarantee rebate approval because approval is decided by the utility based on eligibility and funding.
Heat pumps that meet EmPOWER and ENERGY STAR requirements also qualify for the federal 25C energy efficient home improvement tax credit. We provide the documentation your tax preparer needs. EmPOWER instant rebate and 25C can be combined when you meet both programs' requirements, which significantly lowers the net cost of a high efficiency heat pump in 20876 and 20874.
